Plant name: Eclipta alba.
Chemical constituents: The Bhringaraj plant extract contains an alkaloid called ecliptine. This extract is resinous in nature. The leaves contain a rich amount of protein. The chief constituents of Bhringaraj are coumestan derivatives like wedololactone[1.6%], demethylwedelolactone, desmethyl-wedelolactone-7glucoside and other constituents are ecliptal, ß-amyrin, luteolin-7-O-glucoside, heptacosanol, hentriacontanol, stigmasterol. It is known for its anticancer, antileprotic, analgesic, antihepatotoxic, antioxidant, antimyotoxic, antihaemorrhagic,antiviral, antibacterial, spasmogenic, hypotensive and ovicidal properties.
Uses:
Bhringraj is used in ayurvedic treatment for the prevention of repeated miscarriage and abortion.
It is used extensively by Ayurvedic practitioners, for treating skin diseases and eye infections.
It is also used to relieve post delivery uterine pain.
The decoction prepared from the leaves of this herb is used to reduce uterine bleeding.
It is used as a general tonic in case of debility.
The juice of the leaves of Bhringraj is given for children for the treatment of respiratory tract infections.
Bhringaraj oil is has anti-aging properties, as it has a rejuvenating effect on the body.
Bhringraj is the main herb for hair ailments in Ayurveda.
Hair treatments -Bhringraj oil is a treatment for balding and graying. Massage with the herb’s oil makes the hair black and also promotes deep sleep.
In ayurveda, it is a treatment for enlarged spleen, hepatitis ad skin disorders. The root powder mixed with salt helps in relief from burning urine sensation.
Mixed with a little oil and applied to the head, the herb relieves headache.
